Helen Bailey  BA (Hons), MA (Res), PhD, MBACP

I'm a BACP registered counsellor and UKCP and UKATA registered trainee psychotherapist based in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. I have a postgraduate (Level 7) diploma in counselling and have completed over 600 hours of specialist psychotherapy training in Transactional Analysis, an inclusive and flexible approach that is well-suited for working with individual clients, couples, and groups.

I work with adults aged 18+ around a wide range of issues and have particular experience in bereavement, loss, depression, anxiety and relationship problems. I'm also interested in working with people who, for whatever reason, may be struggling with their sense of identity.

I'm a culturally sensitive, trauma-, diversity- and neurodivergence-informed therapist. I also follow the ethical frameworks of BACP, UKCP and UKATA, attending regular supervision, training and personal therapy.

I'm curious about the different ways families, society, culture and environment influence how we think of ourselves and others, and the stories we create to make sense of our identities, experiences and relationships.

My interest in stories originally led me to study English Literature, and I worked for over 10 years as a researcher and teacher of English in Higher and Further Education. I retrained in counselling and psychotherapy so I could work therapeutically with individuals, couples and groups to help them make sense of their own stories.

Alongside stories, music has always been an important part of my life. I play the violin in local music groups and will happily listen to just about anything. My PhD research looked at how writers explore the relationship between music and spirituality - a connection that still fascinates me.

I like to relax by going for walks, looking out for interesting wildlife, and curling up with my cat, Marbles!
